On zero error algorithms having oracle access to one query

چکیده
It is known that Sp2 ⊆ ZPP NP [3]. The reverse direction of whether ZPP is contained in Sp2 remains open. We show that if the zero-error algorithm is allowed to ask only one query to the NP oracle (for any input and random string), then it can be simulated in Sp2. That is, we prove that ZPP ⊆ Sp2. Next we consider whether the above result can be improved as ZPP ⊆ P and point out a difficulty in doing so. Via a simple proof, we observe that BPP ⊆ ZPP (a result implicitly proven in some prior work). Thus, achieving the above improvement would imply BPP ⊆ P, settling a long standing open problem. We then argue that the above mentioned improvement can be obtained for the next level of the polynomial time hierarchy. Namely, we prove that ZPP p 2 [1] ⊆ P p 2 . On the other hand, by adapting our proof of our main result it can be shown that ZPP p 2 [1] ⊆ S NP[1] 2 . For the purpose of comparing these two results, we prove that P p 2 ⊆ S NP[1] 2 . We conclude by observing that the above claims extend to the higher levels of the hierarchy: for k ≥ 2, ZPP p k [1] ⊆ P p k [2] and P p k ⊆ S Σ k−1 [1] 2 .

A ZPP Lifting Theorem
The complexity class ZPP (corresponding to zero-error randomized algorithms with access to one NP oracle query) is known to have a number of curious properties. We further explore this class in the settings of time complexity, query complexity, and communication complexity. r For starters, we provide a new characterization: ZPP equals the restriction of BPP where the algorithm is only allowed t...
متن کاملDealing with Range Anxiety in Mean Estimation via Statistical Queries
We give algorithms for estimating the expectation of a given real-valued function φ : X → R on a sample drawn randomly from some unknown distributionD over domainX , namely Ex∼D[φ(x)]. Our algorithms work in two well-studied models of restricted access to data samples. The first one is the statistical query (SQ) model in which an algorithm has access to an SQ oracle for the input distribution D...
متن کاملOn SZK and PP
In both query and communication complexity, we give separations between the class NISZK, containing those problems with non-interactive statistical zero knowledge proof systems, and the class UPP, containing those problems with randomized algorithms with unbounded error. These results significantly improve on earlier query separations of Vereschagin [Ver95] and Aaronson [Aar12] and earlier comm...

Finding high-quality web pages is one of the most important tasks of search engines. The relevance between the documents found and the query searched depends on the user observation and increases the complexity of ranking algorithms. The other issue is that users often explore just the first 10 to 20 results while millions of pages related to a query may exist. So search engines have to use sui...
متن کاملQuery Optimization in Oracle 12c Database In-Memory
Traditional on-disk row major tables have been the dominant storage mechanism in relational databases for decades. Over the last decade, however, with explosive growth in data volume and demand for faster analytics, has come the recognition that a different data representation is needed. There is widespread agreement that in-memory column-oriented databases are best suited to meet the realities...
